Early win for Cesar Peixoto as new Wolves boss makes important impact on Kieran Trippier

Last week there was some concern about Kieran Trippier after the sacking of Rob Edwards by Wolves.

The full-back signed for Wanderers after running down his contract at Newcastle United, choosing the project over several other options he had.

But then, out of the blue, Edwards was sacked by Wolves.

It’s official, Kieran Trippier is a Wolf! 🚨 How important a signing will he be for the club?

At the time this was surprising, because Edwards had been involved in all the media for the signing of Trippier, and also Raul Jimenez.

Edwards has been part of transfer meetings, and there were no immediate signs that his job was in danger.

It then came out that Guo Guangchang had lost faith in Edwards, and he would have moved to replace him sooner had agent Jorge Mendes not been preoccupied.

Mendes’ client Cesar Peixoto is now at the helm, and thankfully he has been in contact with Trippier.

The Telegraph have today reported that Trippier has been in contact with new manager Cesar Peixoto.

There was some concern after Trippier had signed that he was thinking of cancelling his contract following Edwards’ sacking.

After all, he had played a big part in bringing the 35-year-old to the club, and Trippier had talked him up in his first interview.

But the fears about an immediate exit for Trippier have today been allayed.

The Telegraph say the full-back is not about to dramatically leave, and is convinced by Peixoto’s plans.

That’s good news, because Trippier is genuinely a real coup for Wolves, who have long lacked leaders and professionalism.

He’ll bring those qualities, but of course he is still a very good player as well.

With Peixoto’s Gil Vicente side scoring the second-highest amount of goals from set-pieces last term, Trippier could well be vital for the new head coach in lots of ways.

It would have been absolutely dreadful optics if Trippier had cancelled his contract, so it’s an early win for Peixoto that he has avoided that scenario.

Have Wolves made the right decision appointing Cesar Peixoto? 🤔

To be fair to Peixoto, he did come across very well in his first interview.

Hopefully, he is able to implement all the things he wants to, so that he can guide Wolves back to the Premier League.

He arrives with no experience of managing in England so it’s a very big job. But it’s also a very big opportunity which he recognises, and hopefully with the help of Matt Jackson, Nathan Shi and Mendes, he will deliver.
