First-Team Squad

The Wolverhampton Wanderers squad for the 2022/23 season at Molineux has 37 players at manager Julen Lopetegui’s disposal. The Premier League club’s senior side has four goalkeepers, 12 defenders, nine midfielders and 12 forwards, including any players currently away on loan transfers.

Wolves goalkeepers

Jose Sa

Wolves signed Jose Sa from Olympiacos in July 2021 for £7m to replace Rui Patricio as the Molineux natives’ No1. The goalkeeper also penned a five-year deal and made his debut against Leicester City.

Matija Sarkic (on loan to Stoke City)

Wolves snapped up Matija Sarkic in 2020 after the goalkeeper left their rivals, Aston Villa, as a free agent. But the Montenegro stopper has since moved to Shrewsbury, Birmingham and Stoke on loan.

Dan Bentley

Bristol City sold Dan Bentley to Wolves in January 2023 as Lopetegui added an experienced option to his goalkeeper ranks. The Basildon native now offers the Molineux club a valuable understudy for Sa.

Louie Moulden

Wolves snapped up young shot-stopper Louie Moulden in July 2021 after his contract at Manchester City expired. He is now on the fringes of their first-team after loans to Ebbsfleet and Solihull Moors.

Wolves defenders

Ki-Jana Hoever (on loan to Stoke City)

Liverpool sold Ki-Jana Hoever to Wolves for £13.5m, plus a 15% sell-on clause, in 2020. He had only played four senior fixtures at Anfield and has since played for PSV and Stoke on loan from Molineux.

Rayan Ait-Nouri

Wolves paid Angers £9.5m to retain Rayan Ait-Nouri in July 2021 after an initial season on loan from the French side. The youngster continues to hold a regular place and is under contract to June 2026.

Nathan Collins

Burnley sold Nathan Collins to Wolves for £20.5m after enduring relegation to the Championship in 2022. He had only spent a year at Turf Moor in which he made his senior Republic of Ireland debut.

Yerson Mosquera

Bruno Lage paid Atletico Nacional £4.5m to sign Yerson Mosquera as his first transfer as manager of Wolves in 2021. The defender has since played just once and is now on loan in MLS with FC Cincinnati.

Craig Dawson

Wolves raided West Ham in January 2023 for Craig Dawson in a £3.5m move to add an experienced name to Lopetegui’s defence. He also headed for Molineux after signing a contract until June 2025.

Conor Coady (on loan to Everton)

Huddersfield sold Conor Coady to Wolves for just £2m as a midfielder in 2015. Nuno Espirito Santo later moved him into central defence and named him captain. But Lage would let Coady join Everton on loan in August 2022. The deal has an option to buy the England defender for a bargain £4.5m fee.

Jonny

Wolves initially hired Jonny on loan from Atletico Madrid before spending £15m for his permanent transfer in January 2019. The versatile defender has since played more than 130 times for the club.

Nelson Semedo

Nuno broke the bank to sign Nelson Semedo from Barcelona while the manager of Wolves in 2020. He spent £37m on the right-back, who had won two La Liga titles over his three years at Camp Nou.

Max Kilman

Wolves raided non-league side Maidenhead United to sign their youth gem Max Kilman in 2018. He has since emerged as one of the Molineux outfit’s best centre-backs after breaking through in 2019.

Toti Gomes

Wolves signed Toti Gomes from Estoril in 2020 and immediately sent the defender out on loan with Grasshoppers. He returned to Molineux from the Swiss side in 2022 but is only a fringe player there.

Hugo Bueno

Wolves signed Hugo Bueno as a youth gem from Areosa in 2019 and have seen the defender rise to their first-team. Steve Davis gave the Spaniard his Premier League debut while the interim manager.

Dexter Lembikisa

Wolves gave Dexter Lembikisa his first professional contract in 2021 before extending his terms until 2026 in 2023. Davis also gave the Jamaica defender his Premier League bow against Arsenal aged 19.

Wolves midfielders

Mario Lemina

Mario Lemina returned to the Premier League in 2023 after Wolves reached a £10m deal with Nice. The Gabon ace, who previously played for Southampton and Fulham, also signed a contract to 2025.

Boubacar Traore

Wolves secured Boubacar Traore on loan from Metz in September 2022 but confirmed in February 2023 that the club would take up a £9.5m option. The midfielder will also sign a contract until 2027.

Bruno Jordao (on loan to Santa Clara)

Wolves signed Bruno Jordao from Lazio in 2019 but are yet to see the midfielder establish himself in the first-team. Instead, the Portuguese has joined Famalicao, Grasshoppers and Santa Clara on loan.

Ruben Neves

Wolves’ owners, Fosun, helped the club secure a £15m transfer from Porto for Ruben Neves in 2017 to secure promotion. He is now one of the most technically skilful midfielders in the Premier League.

Matheus Nunes

Wolves paid Sporting Lisbon a club-record £42m to sign Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes in 2022. He endured a slow start at Molineux but is capable of presenting an offensive threat from their core.

Joao Moutinho

Monaco sold veteran midfielder Joao Moutinho to Wolves for £5m on an initial two-year contract in 2018. He has since extended his contract at Molineux until June 2023 and remains an integral player.

Joao Gomes

Wolves backed Lopetegui to sign Joao Gomes in 2023 for £15m. The midfielder made a senior Brazil squad for the first time three months after moving to Molineux and is establishing a key role there.

Luke Cundle (on loan to Swansea City)

Wolves awarded Luke Cundle his first professional contract in 2019 before renewing their academy graduate’s terms until 2026 in 2022. He also left the club for Swansea on loan for the 2022/23 term.

Joe Hodge

Wolves added Joe Hodge to their academy fold in 2021 after the midfielder left Manchester City. He later made his Premier League bow under Davis in 2022 but only holds a peripheral first-team place.

Wolves attackers

Pedro Neto

Lazio sold Pedro Neto to Wolves in 2019 as a very promising young winger. The Portuguese has since emerged as a key player and extended his deal until 2027 but injuries have often limited his impact.

Raul Jimenez

Raul Jimenez joined Wolves from Benfica for what was a club record £30m in 2019. The Mexico star has since produced an array of goal-laden campaigns. But a serious head injury set his career back.

Daniel Podence

Olympiacos sold Daniel Podence to Wolves in January 2020 for £17m. The winger moved to England on a four-and-a-half-year contract and is often one of the most dangerous wingers at Molineux now.

Hwang Hee-Chan

RB Leipzig initially let Hwang Hee-Chan join Wolves on loan before securing £14m for the striker the following January. Yet the South Korean has only offered the Molineux natives a sparse goal threat.

Matheus Cunha

Atletico Madrid will receive £44m for Matheus Cunha in 2023 as part of his loan move to Wolves. He arrived at Molineux in January in a deal including a clause to become permanent after three outings.

Goncalo Guedes (on loan to SL Benfica)

Wolves backed Lage to sign Goncalo Guedes from Valencia for £27.5m in 2022. But the winger could not settle at Molineux and joined Benfica on loan for the rest of the 2022/23 season during January.

Fabio Silva (on loan to PSV Eindhoven)

Nuno fluttered £35.5m to sign Fabio Silva in a club-record swoop from Porto aged 18. But the striker struggled to live up to his price tag before loan spells with Anderlecht and PSV for the 2022/23 term.

Sasa Kalajdzic

Wolves signed Sasa Kalajdzic from Stuttgart for £15.5m to solve their search for goals. He had struck 22 in 51 Bundesliga games for Die Roten. But the striker sustained an ACL injury days after the deal.

Chiquinho

Wolves splurged £3m to sign sought-after forward Chiquinho from Estoril in 2022 against interest from Benfica. Lage had called for the deal but the winger has only been on the fringes at Molineux.

Pablo Sarabia

Paris Saint-Germain sold Pablo Sarabia to Wolves in January 2023 for £4.5m after lifting two Ligue 1 titles with them. He had previously played for Lopetegui in Spain’s U19 and 21s from 2011 to 2014.

Diego Costa

Wolves signed Diego Costa in September 2022 in response to Kalajdzic’s injury. The striker, who won the Premier League with Chelsea, had been a free agent since leaving Atletico Mineiro that January.

Adama Traore

Wolves spent a former club record £18m to trigger the release clause in Adama Traore’s contract at Middlesbrough upon securing promotion. He has since made in excess of 185 appearances for them.
