Wolves have made their first signing of the summer, with Kieran Trippier joining as a free agent.
The full-back agreed a deal recently after winding down his contract at Newcastle United, and he is the first addition of potentially many this summer.
Trippier arrives at Molineux with a wealth of experience.
Who should Nathan Shi and Matt Jackson be looking to bring in at Wolves this summer? 🤔
Let's hear your suggestions – and they don't have to be any of the four players pictured!
He could possibly have continued in the Premier League as there was a lot of interest in him.
But Trippier clearly likes the look of the Wolves project, and it’s thought that Rob Edwards played a key role in persuading him to join.
And yesterday, the manager spoke about the Trippier signing, and spoke about the potential for him to become captain.
Rob Edwards says Kieran Trippier will be ‘a captain’
Leadership at Wolves has been an issue for a while now.
While the quality in the squad just wasn’t there in 2025/26, there was also a real lack of experience and leadership in the dressing room.
It’s official, Kieran Trippier is a Wolf! 🚨 How important a signing will he be for the club?
The full-back is the first addition of the summer for the Old Gold… 🐺
But signing Trippier goes quite a long way in addressing that – and some have wondered if he might assume the captaincy.
Edwards feels that the defender doesn’t need the armband, but will still serve as ‘a captain’.
He said (via Wolves official): “I think that’s really important, especially in the Championship, because it is different. I know Tripps has been at the top end of the game for a long time, but he has experienced this level and obviously knows English football really well.
“But what he is, and what he’s really well known for – and it’s been spoken about a lot, and when I did my homework and spoke to a lot of people at Newcastle about him – is his leadership. How good he is in the dressing room, his standards every day, and how he will drive things, and he’ll certainly be important for that.
“I don’t think wearing the captain’s armband is important to him, but he will be a captain for us, on a daily basis and on a matchday as well. That side of it is clearly really important and that’s what we’ve tried to go after quite quickly in this window.”
Conor Coady reacts to Trippier move
Trippier has already made his first post after joining Wolves, saying on Instagram: “I am delighted to join @wolves, a new chapter and one I’m ready for. I’m looking forward to working with the team, and giving my all on the pitch.
“I can’t wait to meet the fans and play at Molineux 🧡🐺”
Plenty of people in football have left their messages of support.

And Wolves fans will be particularly drawn to a nice comment left by former Wolves captain Conor Coady, who has played with Trippier with England.
He wrote: “Top club brother, filled with top people ❤️”
Sean Dyche, who managed Trippier at Burnley, was also in the comments, describing this as a ‘brilliant’ move for Wolves.
