Wolves fans were left pleased ahead of the weekend as reports surfaced that a deal for Kieran Trippier is now in place.

Wolves have reached an agreement for Trippier to sign on a free transfer, with the defender having left Newcastle United.

It’s a real coup for Wanderers, who have needed to get the summer off to a positive start.

What do you make of Wolves moving for Kieran Trippier? 🤔

While he may be in his mid-thirties, Trippier still showed a relatively high level throughout 2025/26, and will bring a number of benefits to Wolves.

Matt Jackson confirmed at the recent Fan Forum that Wolves were looking to bring in leaders.

Trippier certainly falls into that bracket – and this may well prompt Rob Edwards to make a big decision.

It is not out of the question that Trippier could actually become Wolves’ new captain.

The 35-year-old previously skippered Newcastle before the armband went to Bruno Guimaraes, and he also captained England a few times under Gareth Southgate.

One of the reasons Wolves have moved for Trippier is because of his leadership credentials, so there is surely a reasonable chance that he takes the armband.

The Wolves captaincy has been something of a poisoned chalice in recent years.

After a period of stability when Conor Coady was captain, the armband was passed to Ruben Neves, then Max Kilman, then Mario Lemina briefly and then Nelson Semedo.

After Semedo left when his contract expired, Toti Gomes became the new captain.

Toti is a respected figure at Wolves, but the decision to make him club captain was questionable as some have suggested he is not a natural leader.

Edwards was never likely to take it off him when he came in.

But now is potentially the right moment to make a change ahead of playing in the Championship.

Who should Nathan Shi and Matt Jackson be looking to bring in at Wolves this summer? 🤔

Let's hear your suggestions – and they don't have to be any of the four players pictured!

Raul Jimenez, Kieran Trippier, Jordan James and Nikolas Polster are some of the early links ahead of the summer window opening…

Ladislav Krejci is a potential candidate, but it’s not yet clear if he’ll definitely be sticking around.

But Trippier is coming in, and this is a man who is a proven leader, a consummate professional and an upholder of standards. He is someone you ideally want in the role of captain.

So Edwards handing the armband to Trippier is certainly something to potentially look out for.
