Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa has received a late call-up to Portugal’s squad for their crucial World Cup qualification play-off.
Stopper Anthony Lopes pulled out with injury, which means that Sa is now in the party which will take on Turkey tomorrow night.
Let’s be honest, Sa should have been in the original squad, having been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this term.
In terms of value as well, he is up there with the best top flight signings in any position of the summer and it is justice that he has been rewarded with a place in the squad.
He is unlikely to play unless there are more injuries, but it is all good experience as he sets his sights on eventually replacing Rui Patricio between the sticks.
After his first training session of the international break, Sa posted a message on Instagram, firing his countrymen up for the task ahead.
Translated, his message read: “Proud to represent Portugal! We know it won’t be easy but we have confidence and total focus on our goals.”
Portugal need to beat Turkey this week to set up a final clash to earn a place in Qatar, and look to be on a collision course with Italy.
Ruben Neves is not in the squad through injury and the same goes for Pedro Neto and Nelson Semedo but Joao Moutinho and Sa ensure Wolves are still represented.
