Yet more hints at Wolves as Toti Gomes and Jose Sa discuss their futures

The season is about to end, and Wolves will then begin their rebuild.

The Old Gold were relegated a few weeks ago following a dismal season, with recruitment playing a huge part.

Wolves’ squad simply didn’t have enough quality, and the appointment of Rob Edwards did not have the transformative effect the hierarchy had hoped it would.

Should any of these NOT be on this list? And are there any who aren’t there who SHOULD be on? 🤔

The Athletic have claimed Wolves would like these nine players to stay after relegation…

Wolves will now offload several players as they seek to head into their Championship campaign in the best possible shape.

And in recent days, we’ve been hearing from several players about their futures.

And there is now word from Toti Gomes and Jose Sa, who have been interviewed by a Portuguese outlet.

Yerson Mosquera has suggested he’ll stay at Wolves, and several other players have also strongly hinted they’ll be sticking around, such as David Moller Wolfe, Rodrigo Gomes and Mateus Mane.

Edwards had said at the Fan Forum last week that he had been speaking with five or six players that Wolves had wanted to keep, so perhaps these players were the ones he was referring to.

And now, two more have been speaking about their futures.

Toti Gomes appears keen to stay, telling DAZN Portugal (via A Bola): “Everything is already being dealt with and without a doubt that the club will try to do everything possible.

“Both in the next market that will open, both to start the pre-season well and to have a good Championship for next year to be able to bring Wolves as soon as possible to the big stages, the Premier League.”

However, goalkeeper Jose Sa’s comments point towards an exit.

He said: “I haven’t thought about the future yet, now it’s time to finish the championship and then think about the World Cup. Then there is time to think about it. Of course, I’ll miss people from the club here too. Five years are not five days.

“Of course, it’s always difficult to get on the pitch when you already know you’re going to be relegated. But we always have to give our best to finish well, at least.”

It’s time to move on from Sa, but Toti can be useful

Sa was reportedly ‘desperate’ to leave Wolves in January, with a move to Nottingham Forest mooted.

It didn’t materialise, but Wolves now need to be moving on from Sa after five years.

With both him and Sam Johnstone being 33 years old, it’s the right moment for Wolves to be signing a younger goalkeeper, arguably with a more modern play style.

The club have been linked with a move for Nikolas Polster, who is 23 and has already drawn comparison with Manuel Neuer.

Toti staying though should be welcomed.

He did not have a good season, and he probably shouldn’t continue as club captain, but his physicality and athleticism are traits that would stand him in good stead in the Championship.
