The story of Rob Edwards’ sacking by Wolves continues to captivate, and it’s now been claimed that Rui Pedro Silva might have replaced the Englishman.

It has been a whirlwind 24 hours or so, after reports started to emerge in Portugal about Rob Edwards’ position.

Could Wolves’ messy sacking of Rob Edwards now derail the club’s summer and promotion bid? 🤔

He was sacked officially this morning, despite having featured heavily in the media work for the signings of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez in which he played a key role.

The decision has left people at Wolves shocked, with both players and staff unhappy.

The decision was pushed through by Guo Guangchang, who turned to Jorge Mendes and Valdir Cardoso after being unhappy with Edwards’ spell.

Cesar Peixoto will now replace Edwards, but the club could well have gone in a different direction.

According to the Daily Mail, Wolves did actually consider replacing Edwards with Rui Pedro Silva, who has been an assistant coach at Molineux.

The publication say that information was given to them in mid-May.

In the end Wolves did not go in that direction, and the Daily Mail say it’s currently unclear whether Silva will stay at Molineux to work alongside Peixoto or if he’ll move on.

Silva returned to Wolves in December, shortly before Jeff Shi left the club.

That was a move that supporters welcomed, because Silva had been at Wolves before working as part of Nuno Espirito Santo coaching staff.

He was a well-respected figure in his first spell, so his return was deemed a big positive.

But given the handling of Edwards’ sacking, one wonders what now lies in store for him. Reports are obviously widespread that there is discontent about Edwards’ departure.

It’d be a great shame to lose him.

Silva was there in the 2017/18 season as Wolves surged out of the Championship and into the Premier League, and he is a talented coach.

Some will probably be wondering why Wolves didn’t actually just appoint him as the head coach if they were sacking Edwards, given how well he knows the club.

The club are certainly taking a major gamble with Peixoto, who’ll be starting from scratch in terms of building player relationships. And actually, he may well immediately be on the back foot with some of them.
