It’s time to pick the bones out of Wolves’ relegation – and many have pointed to the exit of Nuno Espirito Santo in 2021 as the start of the club’s decline.
Wanderers lost their top-flight status on Monday, with Nuno Espirito Santo delivering the final blow to his former club.
His West Ham United side drew with Crystal Palace, making it impossible for the Old Gold to survive now.
How confident are you in Nuno’s prediction about Wolves after the club’s relegation was confirmed?
And was his exit the turning point at Molineux? 🤔
So it’s back to the Championship for Wolves, and a lot of hard work needs to be done to prepare the squad for an immediate bounce back. Failure to prepare properly could see Wolves fighting at the wrong end of the table.
Wolves have been circling the drain for years, and for a lot of people, Nuno’s departure was the moment everything started to fall apart.
And now it’s been revealed what Jeff Shi felt about him when the decision was made.
How Jeff Shi perceived Nuno explains his shock Wolves exit
When it was first announced that Nuno was to leave Wolves at the end of the 2020/21 season, there was real shock within the fanbase.
There had been reports that Nuno hadn’t been all that happy, being away from family and overseeing a difficult season for Wolves which featured Raul Jimenez suffering a serious head injury.

Nuno had often cut a sad and lonely figure on the touchline in games that season.
But there was still real surprise about his exit.
But the E&S have reported on the leadership at Wolves in recent years which has led to this situation, and make a claim about former chairman Jeff Shi’s role in Nuno’s exit.
The publication say that Shi forgot the impression that Nuno felt Wolves ‘needed him’, rather than Nuno needing Wolves more.
Then came the steady dismantling of Nuno’s squad which had been so successful in the top-flight.
Diogo Jota left for Liverpool that summer, Helder Costa left for Leeds United and Matt Doherty joined Tottenham Hotspur.
Rui Patricio departed a year later, then Leander Dendoncker, John Ruddy and Romain Saiss all went in 2023.
Nuno predicts good days will return for Wolves
After West Ham’s draw with Palace on Monday, Nuno reacted to Wolves’ relegation and predicted good days will return for Wolves.
He said: “Of course, of course, of course (it’s something that upsets me). I feel for them.
“I wish them all the best. They are a giant club and for sure they are going to go back to good days.”

With Jeff Shi out of the picture now, there is some cautious optimism that better decisions will be made at Wolves that will help the club get back to the Premier League.
However, many still have reservations about the long term while Fosun remain at the helm. hopefully, interim chairman Nathan Shi will put actions to his positive words so far.
