Wolves fans were left stunned earlier this week when Rob Edwards left the club.

The Old Gold had just had two really positive days that saw two high profile players join the club in Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez.

But on Thursday, after some loose speculation the day before, Wolves announced that Rob Edwards had been sacked.

Could Wolves’ messy sacking of Rob Edwards now derail the club’s summer and promotion bid? 🤔

The news was huge, because most had anticipated Edwards would be leading the rebuild the summer. He had spent days and weeks talking about his plans for it.

And his appointment in the first place was made with the Championship in mind.

The decision caught many people at the club by surprise, and is said to have angered players and staff.

And now, Steve Bull has had his say in his new column.

Edwards losing his job was perhaps not something that was all too surprising in isolation.

He had struggled to get results, although he had inherited a squad that was clearly well short in terms of quality.

But the messy nature of the situation has not sat well with fans. Edwards finding out after seeing rumours on social media was a poor look for the club.

He was also in a transfer meeting just days before the decision, making it all the more bizarre.

And Bull has expressed his surprise about the news in latest E&S column.

He said: “I was stunned when the news broke of Wolves sacking Rob Edwards.

“I do feel a bit sorry for him, he tried to keep the peace where it was hard to and he did the best job he could have for us.

“This is modern football, these things happen, but I was still just as stunned as everyone else to hear the news.

“No-one expected Edwards to go, we all thought he would have the summer to rebuild this squad, but the Wolves board must see something different.

“I wish Edwards all the very best in whatever is next for him and I also wish the new manager the very best as he arrives at our great club.”

Bull delighted to see Jimenez return

While the Edwards sacking has had a negative impact on the mood, the return of Raul Jimenez is huge for Wolves.

The striker, who scored in Mexico’s 2-0 win against South Africa at the World Cup, had unfinished business at Molineux and sealed a move back to the club on a free.

The star’s return could galvanise the whole club, and Bull is delighted to see him back.

He said: “He loves the club and always will – and the fans love him back – so it’s brilliant news. It’s special to see him back in a Wolves shirt.”

And of course, Jimenez will be back in his old number nine shirt, the one Bull also used to wear.

This, after Adam Armstrong graciously gave it up upon hearing the 35-year-old was ready to come back.
