Bruno Lage says he has a lot of belief in Fabio Silva

Some eyebrows might have been raised when Bruno Lage brought off Raul Jimenez for Fabio Silva with Wolves chasing a goal against Manchester United.

Lage gave Silva 15 minutes and he caught the eye with his hard running and ability to help Wolves kill the game once Joao Moutinho had put them in front.

Silva has struggled for gametime under Lage this season but as per the Birmingham Mail, the Molineux boss shared a conversation with the hitman from before the game which convinced him he was ready.

It was a good week for him,” Lage said of Silva.

“When everyone was out in the warm up I talked with him, ‘I saw what you did in training, I saw you were focused in the way you pressed and you know the plan. How much time can you give to us?’

“I know he was out for two weeks and the kid said, ‘I can play 25 minutes’. So when it came to that time, I had the idea of giving him 15.

“He did everything I want and understood the game in the offensive way. I’m very happy with him. Fabio needs to continue to work because he has a manager and staff who believe a lot in him.”

Perhaps this can be a turning point for Silva under Lage, because he is yet to start a Premier League game this season.

There is a case for saying he deserves a chance in the Premier League now and his contribution was all the more impressive because he has just recovered from Covid.

But Lage has also already said he wants an alternative striker before the end of the January transfer window and it remains to be seen how Silva fits into that.
