Wolves are already preparing for life in the Championship after relegation was confirmed one week ago – and the club could move for James Tavernier.
The Old Gold are facing a huge summer rebuild as a result of losing their top-flight status.
Should any of these NOT be on this list? And are there any who aren’t there who SHOULD be on? 🤔
The Athletic have claimed Wolves would like these nine players to stay after relegation…
Wolves are thought to want to retain nine players to form the core of a new-look group, but the squad will certainly be looking very different next season.
One area that is likely to be a priority for Wolves is right-back, with Jackson Tchatchoua having failed to convince.
Tchatchoua could depart after just one season, and Wolves will need to make sure his successor hits the ground running.
And it looks like James Tavernier could be a target.
Wolves linked with James Tavernier

According to TEAMtalk, Wolves are monitoring Tavernier’s situation.
The right-back will become a free agent this summer, after deciding to leave Rangers.
He’s been there since 2015, joining the Scottish giants from Wigan Athletic.
He has made a whopping 536 appearances for the club, but won’t make many more now that it is confirmed he’ll be departing.
Would James Tavernier be a good signing for Wolves as the club prepare to play in the Championship?
He is the highest-scoring defender in British football history… 👀
Wolves are not the only club keen though.
Tottenham Hotspur, who could yet be relegated like Wolves, are also said to be showing interest in the 34-year-old.
It is suggested though that Spurs would only go after Tavernier if they do drop into the Championship, so Wolves might be hoping for their survival.

Tavernier is the highest-scoring defender in British football history
One of the most intriguing aspects about Tavernier is that he’s actually the highest-scoring defender in British history.
He has an incredible 151 goals to his name, with 144 of those coming in Rangers colours.

His best tally in a single season came in the 2023/24 campaign, when he scored 24 times across all competitions, with 17 coming in the Premiership.
77 of his goals have been penalties, while 20 have come from direct free-kicks.
