Wolves face making loss on £10m signing, but he should be one of the first sold

The work now begins for Wolves as they prepare for life in the Championship.

Wanderers have officially been relegated from the Premier League with five games to go, and the inquest as to where it all went wrong is in full swing.

Undoubtedly, poor recruitment is the main reason for Wolves’ demise.

Last summer, none of Wolves’ new recruits had any Premier League experience, and were all huge risks as the club were selling or letting go of proven performers.

And as expected, most of them have struggled.

And arguably the worst signing of the bunch has been Jackson Tchatchoua, but it looks like he’s one of several who could be on the way out.

Tuttomercatoweb have published an article about Tchatchoua in light of Wolves’ relegation.

They suggest that despite his poor season, there is still a market for him in Italy and he still has a decent reputation.

They note that ‘several Italian clubs had already been interested’ in him before he joined Wolves, and that there will be an opportunity for the likes of Juventus, Inter and Bologna to sign him again this summer.

The Athletic add that Wolves would like to recoup the fees they paid for some players – Tchatchoua being one.

The Cameroon international cost Wolves just over £10 million (via BBC Sport).

Wolves should cut their losses on Tchatchoua

There will be a desire for Wolves to recoup what they paid Hellas Verona for Tchatchoua, but it would be a major shock if offers around the £10 million mark were forthcoming.

Simply put, Tchatchoua has been an abysmal signing for Wolves and should be one of the first sold in the next window.

Tchatchoua arrived last summer to some hype, having been clocked as the fastest player in Serie A in 2024/25.

It didn’t take him long to officially become the quickest player in the Premier League – but that has been the only thing about Tchatchoua in a Wolves shirt.

And actually, a lot of the time, he hasn’t even used that pace to cause his opponent problems. Indeed, Andy Thompson recently urged Tchatchoua to start taking on his man more, to make use of his devastating pace. It’s a criticism many fans have also had of him.

He’s often been untidy on the ball and doesn’t provide much output in the final third for Wolves (just two assists in 35 games), meaning there are very few arguments for keeping hold of him for the Championship.

Pedro Lima is a player with big potential and Rob Edwards should be using these remaining Premier League games to develop him ahead of the 2026/27 season.

As for Tchatchoua, if an offer of even half what Wolves paid came in, then they should jump at the chance to sell.
