Defender James Tarkowski has reportedly informed Burnley of his desire to leave them as a free agent, following transfer links in the summer to Wolves.

The Athletic have reported the star is all set to depart Turf Moor next summer, barring an unlikely change of heart.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

Supposedly, he has made his position clear to club officials, and he wants a new challenge.

He wants to go when his contract expires next year.

It could be that this is a move from the player designed to force Burnley’s hand in January.

The Clarets would surely not want to lose Tarkowski for nothing.

That said, he is an absolutely key player for them, and Sean Dyche may see more value in keeping him for the whole season, with a relegation battle possible.

Wolves were linked with a move for Tarkowski in the summer.

The Telegraph claimed the club were eyeing a swoop for the two-cap England international.

At the time, many fans were all for seeing Tarkowski make a move to Molineux.

After all, he is a proven performer at Premier League level.

Wolves are set to lose Willy Boly and Romain Saiss to AFCON in January, and so there will be a pressing need for a new centre-back, or two.

Wolves should make some enquiries, as Tarkowski eyes free agent exit

Tarkowski may well be looking to leave Burnley as a free agent.

But Wolves should be looking to make some enquiries to see if there is any chance of a January sale.

Tarkowski would be an absolutely brilliant addition.

The £50,000-a-week star has been so consistent for Burnley over the past few years, and obviously has crucial Premier League experience.

There has been some talk about Sven Botman as a possible signing, but Tarkowski would be much less of a risk.
