Joao Gomes has not yet completed any move away from Wolves, and his proposed switch to Atletico Madrid could be in some jeopardy.
It has been quite the week at Wolves with two new players signing and Rob Edwards leaving.
It is thought that Cesar Peixoto will be announced as the new manager imminently, and he will then help to oversee the rebuild.
Who should Nathan Shi and Matt Jackson be looking to bring in at Wolves this summer? 🤔
Let's hear your suggestions – and they don't have to be any of the four players pictured!
Despite a change of manager, there is still a strong possibility that several players will leave.
And actually, given the nature of Edwards’ sacking, there could be more outgoings now than previously anticipated.
One player who is expected to go is Joao Gomes, and Atletico Madrid have been close to signing him.
But there could now be a twist in the tale.
Galatasaray want Joao Gomes
According to journalist Kagan Dursun on X: “Galatasaray is among the active teams in the Joao Gomes transfer alongside Atletico Madrid.
“The yellow-red team has been in talks since January for the Brazilian player on their ‘midfield father’ list.”
In a separate post, Dursun said about Atletico Madrid: “Atletico Madrid had reached a preliminary agreement with the player last month, but was unable to complete the transfer due to finding Wolverhampton’s asking price for the transfer fee too high.
“The Spanish club is on one hand waiting for a reduction in the transfer fee, and on the other hand making efforts for alternative candidates. There is interest in Joao Gomes from many teams in Europe’s top 5 leagues.”
Dursun owns the ‘Galatasaray Developments’ channel on various social platforms, and has previously worked at ATV, CNN, Millyet and Fotomac.
So seemingly he has a good handling on all things Galatasaray, who could now throw a spanner in the works for Atleti.
It’s thought that Wolves’ asking price for Gomes has been around £40 million.

It had actually been reported previously that an agreement in principle was reached for Gomes to transfer to Atleti for about £39 million.
Hopefully Wolves can facilitate this one relatively quickly, and move on to the next sales.
It will be important to move with efficiency and precision this summer, even more so now that a new manager is coming in.
There’s no chance of Gomes staying, so ideally it won’t be too much longer until he’s sold and the money is banked.
