Dave Edwards feels Adama Traore could still extend his contract at Wolves

Former Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards believes the club could still tie Adama Traore down to a new contract.

The winger’s current deal expires in just a few weeks’ time.

Traore stands to become a free agent, and there have been reports of interest from Serie A champions Napoli and a few other clubs in recent weeks.

Many Wolves fans are expecting him to leave.

Traore has been offered several new deals by Wolves and has been reluctant to commit, and the feeling for many is that if he wanted to stay, he would have signed by now. But the club have said they are still working on it.

Traore is 27 now and might fancy a new chapter, having been at Molineux since 2018.

But Edwards believes there could still be faint hope of Wolves coming to an agreement the the rapid Spanish forward.

He said (via Express & Star): “He’s an enigma at times and can be frustrating. But he does things on a football pitch that no-one else in the world can do.

“He’s exciting and value for money for fans. If he puts in the kind of unplayable performances we know he can, he’s an asset for the football club.

“Before Julen Lopetegui came in I’d have said Adama’s time at the club was definitely done. But I see how Lopetegui has worked with Adama and he may have a chance of staying.

“If contract talks are ongoing, you can see what the manager thinks of him. With Adama not dismissing those talks either, there might be some Wolves life left in Adama.”

It was reported recently that Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis would sign Traore immediately if he could. He is currently trying to land a new manager following the departure of Luciano Spalletti. And he needs to know if his new head coach would be as keen on Traore as he is.

It would be amazing if Adama Traore signed new Wolves contract, but it just doesn’t feel likely

Traore’s end product still fails him sometimes. But he is quite possibly the most unique footballer in the world.

He does remarkable things on a football pitch and it’s little wonder Lopetegui wants to keep him.

But it’s just whether Traore wants to extend his stay.

He didn’t really get that many starts under Lopetegui, and that might be something he really wants.

He has apparently been offered £100,000-a-week in the past by Wolves and the player didn’t sign. That would suggest it’s not about money for Traore.

Hopefully he springs a surprise and does extend. Because at the very least, he is one of the most entertaining players in the game today.
