Wolves to face Nuno Espirito Santo in 2026/27 amid surprise West Ham decision

There is big breaking news this morning, with former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo now confirmed to be staying at West Ham United despite their relegation.

It was suggested yesterday that Nuno was all set to leave West Ham after he couldn’t keep them in the top-flight.

How confident are you in Nuno’s prediction about Wolves after the club’s relegation was confirmed?

And was his exit the turning point at Molineux? 🤔

West Ham dropped on the final day of the season, after Tottenham Hotspur beat Everton at home. The Hammers beat Leeds United 3-0, but that was rendered irrelevant.

Nuno was coy about his future when interviewed by Sky straight after their relegation.

But he will now stay, after a somewhat surprising announcement on Wednesday morning.

West Ham have confirmed the news this morning, explaining to supporters their decision.

The board of directors said via West Ham’s official website: “We held meetings with Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo early this week and are pleased to confirm that he has expressed his continued commitment to the Club – as we have to him.

“Nuno made it very clear that he is highly motivated for the challenge of guiding West Ham United back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

“That must be the unquestionable goal for next season. Nuno has spent one previous year in the EFL Championship and it was an outstanding success as he secured 99 points to win the title with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018.”

The news will undoubtedly disappoint some Wolves fans, many of whom have been banging the drum for Nuno to return to Molineux.

Nuno coming back is something that has long been floated by supporters, as no manager since his departure has really struck up the same kind of relationship with the fans, or brought as much success.

But the wait goes on, and Wolves will now face their old boss again in the 2026/27, rather than be guided by him.

Potentially, this is actually not good news at all for Wolves, with supporters knowing full well his capability to manage in the Championship. West Ham keeping Nuno is a boost for their automatic promotion hopes.

Rob Edwards is all set to oversee a big summer and take the team in the new season, where hopefully he will guide Wolves out of the Championship and back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

But given the way he’s finished the season just gone, it’ll be important for him to start well.

Some supporters have had real trouble working out the identity of the team so far under Edwards.

Should Wolves make a move for Raul Jimenez this summer?! 👀

The former striker has opened the door to a sensational return with his contract about to expire at Fulham!

But he now has the chance to mould the team in his image, so there’ll be no excuses for continuing to lack an identity.

There may be no return for Nuno this summer, but there may well be one for Raul Jimenez, who did open the door to a move recently.

Edwards would certainly win over some fans if he brought the Mexican striker back to Molineux.
