The 2025/26 season has been a shambles for Wolves and many supporters simply cannot wait for it to be over.
The Old Gold have been relegated from the top-flight and, after an eight-year stay in the Premier League, the club will now play in the Championship from next season.
Ultimately, Wolves have dropped because the summer recruitment of 2025 fell well short.
Who do you think should win Wolves’ Player of the Season?
It's been a dismal season, but some of these guys have done OK. Let us know below the reasons behind your choice…
Too many proven players and game-changers left, only to be replaced by gambles.
That left a squad that was woefully underprepared and lacking in quality.
Most of the new signings failed to make an impact – and many of the existing players also did not perform to the standards we know they can set.
But amid a season filled with darkness, there has actually been one shining light – and his name is Santiago Bueno.
Why Santiago Bueno deserves to win Player of the Season vote

Some had wondered if Wolves would actually open a vote this time around for Player of the Season, given how disastrous a campaign it’s been.
But fans can indeed vote via the club’s official website, with 19 players to pick from (those who have made at least 10 appearances).
Even though it’s been a horrible season, a strong case can be made for Santiago Bueno being Wolves’ Supporters’ Player of the Season.
The Uruguayan started off the season on the fringes, but he came into the team alongside Ladislav Krejci, with Vitor Pereira changing the system to a back four.
It was paramount that Pereira tried to make a change, because Emmanuel Agbadou was in horrendous form at the time, with Toti Gomes not much better.
That Bueno-Krejci partnership did see Wolves improve at the back – he excelled in the draws with Tottenham and Brighton, even scoring against the former.
Bueno then had another spell on the bench when Rob Edwards first came in, but Edwards did restore him to the backline after a few weeks. Clearly, losing his seven games in charge meant something had to change.
After being recalled against Brentford on December 20, Bueno has since started all but one Premier League game for Wolves (missed Manchester United away due to a knock).
There have been some calamitous bits of defending from Wolves at times, but by and large Bueno has been very consistent at the back for Wolves.
In the Wolves squad he’s top for blocks made (via official Premier League), and sixth for duels won. For a player who was previously criticised for a lack of physicality, this shows progress. He’s also joint-second for clearances at Wolves.
Who do you think has been the worst signing Wolves made in the 2025 summer window? 🤔
Krejci and Moller Wolfe surely aren't in the mix…
He’s also been very reliable on the ball, with his 86% accuracy (via WhoScored) being the second-highest in the squad after Andre (91%).
And of course, Bueno has done his bit at the other end of the pitch this season, chipping in with four goals. That, embarrassingly for Wolves’ attackers, puts him third-top scorer behind Tolu Arokodare (6) and Rodrigo Gomes (5).
Edwards hailed Bueno back in February after Wolves’ gritty win over Grimsby Town in the FA Cup, saying: “He’s been playing really well. Santi is someone who is really growing on me. He goes about his business, he’s unassuming, very quiet, but a quiet leader. He’s been playing very well for us, and he’s helped us to two clean sheets in a row.
“He’s been good and he’s got the all-important goal today, and an amazing tackle right at the end as well. He’s just a good footballer and he showed up today. I really like him and it’s too early to speak about things like that [Bueno being with the squad next season] now, but I do really like Santi Bueno.”

His season has obviously not been without poor games. That would be impossible given how bad things have been with Wolves as a collective.
But there haven’t really been too many of those compared to his teammates, and Bueno can hold his head higher than most of the rest.
He’s a player Wolves would reportedly like to retain this summer. But given his performances, that could be difficult, with Bueno already attracting attention.
