Wolves duo make top 20 worst signings list, but two others can count themselves lucky

Wolves 2025 summer transfer window has come into the spotlight again, after the club’s recent relegation.

Wanderers will play Championship football next season, after a completely disastrous campaign.

Should any of these NOT be on this list? And are there any who aren’t there who SHOULD be on? 🤔

The Athletic have claimed Wolves would like these nine players to stay after relegation…

Rob Edwards’ November appointment after the sacking of Vitor Pereira was not enough to save the Old Gold in the end, and the inquest has been in full swing since relegation was confirmed last Monday.

Most put it down to the recruitment, with Wolves letting too many proven players leave and replacing them with gambles.

Six new faces came in – and two of them have now been included on a list of the top 20 worst signings by Premier League clubs.

Jhon Arias and Fer Lopez make top 20 worst signings list

The Daily Mail have looked at all the deals that were done last summer and compiled a list of the 20 worst ones.

And two Wolves players have made said list.

Fer Lopez comes in at number 15, with the Spaniard having joined Wolves for £19 million from Celta Vigo, only to be loaned back six months later.

Lopez didn’t have much experience of senior football when he made the move, and it showed in his performances.

There were times where he could have perhaps played more. But when he did take to the pitch, it was clear that he was just too raw. It would be no surprise if he didn’t stick around for next season.

Jhon Arias is the other player included, ranking at number 15.

Wolves bought Arias off the back of the Club World Cup. And in fairness, he had a good reputation over in Brazil after some good years at Fluminense.

But Arias proved to be a dreadful signing and lacked influence in most of the games he played.

The handful of games he had in a central midfield role offered hope of a turnaround, but Wolves sold him to Palmeiras in January, somehow making a profit in the process.

While they aren’t bad players by any means, Lopez and Arias were undoubtedly two awful signings by the club. But there are two others who can count themselves lucky not to feature.

Another Wolves pair are lucky to avoid inclusions

Wolves’ recruitment was that bad last summer, that even more names could have made it onto the Daily Mail’s list.

Jackson Tchatchoua is one, because the Cameroon international has been a significant downgrade on his predecessor Nelson Semedo.

He was probably overlooked for an inclusion due to only costing £10 million. But there is little doubt that he has fallen well short of the standards expected.

Tchatchoua has pace to burn but rarely ever uses it to do damage. He often looks like a rabbit in headlights, and doesn’t provide a good end product consistently enough.

Tolu Arokodare can also count himself fortunate not to be on the list.

Should Tolu Arokodare play another minute for Wolves after his reported bust-up with Mateus Mane? 🤔

The Nigerian striker was Wolves’ most expensive recruit of the 2025 summer window at £25 million, and he has scored just six goals across all competitions, with three coming in the Premier League.

For a player of his size, he has just not dominated like many hoped he would.

And now, he will potentially leave after just one season, with reports indicating Arokodare is unlikely to stay after a bust-up with Mateus Mane that resulted in the striker being disciplined.
