Wolves fans were buoyed recently when Andre signed a new contract with the club.

Ahead of the final game of the season against Burnley, Wolves announced that the Brazilian had agreed fresh terms at Molineux.

The news came rather out of the blue, and was a welcome surprise to most fans.

The narrative had long been that Wolves were set to sell Andre, who has not been short of suitors in recent times – Juventus were thought to be one of the most keen.

But Andre will now stay at Wolves beyond the summer as a result of his new deal.

And that has been a focus for Steve Bull in his latest E&S column.

Andre won’t be going anywhere now after he signed his new deal.

The star has given an interview and spoken about the season ahead and is very much all-in for the project.

Dave Edwards said Andre could comfortably be the best player in the Championship, and few would disagree with that assessment.

And now, Wolves legend Steve Bull has weighed in on the news, and he feels this could be a catalyst for the club in the transfer market.

He said (via E&S): “I thought he was one of the main ones to be sold this summer and I think a lot of fans thought the same, but he loves the club, loves the fans and his family must be happy here.

“He’s a very good player and if you can build a squad around players like him, you have a chance.

“Now they need to try to keep a few of the other good players to build a solid side for the Championship.

“Andre staying will also help Wolves with attracting other players – but any player that signs here needs to realise that Wolves is a massive club.

“It is a club that deserves to be back in the big time and any signings need to know what it means to play for Wolves.

“You’d be a fool not to sign for Wolves. It’s a massive club but we need to learn from our mistakes in the last 12 months if we want to progress.”

Bull is spot on, this outcome for Wolves has the potential to help massively in terms of recruitment.

It was a major show of intent to keep hold of Andre, and other players who could be on the move this summer will surely look at it favourably.

Having this kind of player in the Championship is bound to increase the appeal of the team, and also the project.

So it actually makes the coming summer quite exciting now. Andre himself has already claimed Rob Edwards has promised he’ll build a competitive side that will hopefully be good enough to sit in those automatic promotion places at the end of the season.

Being relegated has obviously been hard for everyone to accept. But it’s time to turn over a new leaf, and Wolves needed to embrace the challenge. Do that, and there is every chance of an immediate return to the Premier League.
