Sasa Kalajdzic made headlines in the early hours of the morning after he scored a late equaliser for Austria at the World Cup.

The Wolves striker has just enjoyed a really good season on loan at LASK back in his homeland, and his form saw Ralf Rangnick call him up for the tournament.

He had always hoped that he’d go, after suffering two really awful knee injuries.

But thankfully, he succeeded at LASK, and is now representing his country in North America.

And last night, Kalajdzic was responsible for the most dramatic moment of the tournament so far.

Sasa Kalajdzic goal vs Algeria dumps out Iran

Following England’s win over Panama late last night, more group stage games followed.

Lionel Messi and Argentina won again, beating Jordan 3-1 to take maximum points in their group.

The other game saw Austria take on Algeria – and the pulsating game ended in dramatic fashion.

Marko Arnautovic opened the scoring, but Rafik Belghali equalised just before half-time. Marcel Sabitzer then put Austria back in front, but Riyad Mahrez equalised for Algeria.

Mahrez thought he had won it for Algeria by scoring in the 93rd minute. But incredibly, Kalajdzic, on as a substitute, headed home a dramatic equaliser in the 96th minute to ensure the spoils were shared.

And this had great significance, because it meant that Iran have now been eliminated. Both Austria and Algeria are through as a result of the draw.

For Austria, it’s a first qualification to the knockout stages since the 1982 tournament.

Wolves have to keep Kalajdzic

There has been talk about Kalajdzic’s future recently, after he played so well for LASK.

His injury problems have been well documented, and plenty have previously written Kalajdzic off.

But the man looks to have finally turned a corner. He was so productive throughout 2025/26 and now he’s having an impact for his country at the World Cup.

Wolves face a gruelling season ahead, but it makes sense to keep Kalajdzic – who is wanted by Schalke – as a rotation option if he would be happy with that role.

How would you feel about Wolves bringing Sasa Kalajdzic back into the fold next season? Would it be wise?

That would help him to manage the workload, and Wolves would have an excellent backup for Raul Jimenez and Adam Armstrong.

Kalajdzic himself has hinted he could have ‘unfinished business’ at Wolves, so it seems there is indeed a chance he’ll stick around.

Cesar Peixoto will assess his squad during pre-season next month, and it would be pleasing if Kalajdzic stuck around and was finally able to make a proper impact in an old gold shirt after the rotten luck he has had.
