Cesar Peixoto is the new head coach of Wolves.

The club have confirmed the arrival of the Portuguese on a two-year contract, and he replaces Rob Edwards who was sacked last week.

The Old Gold turned to Jorge Mendes to help facilitate this move, after Guo Guangchang lost faith in Edwards to take Wolves forward.

The nature of Edwards’ sacking has not gone down well, and it remains to be seen if there will be ramifications in terms of players looking to leave.

But Peixoto is now in the hot seat, and he will need to deliver quickly.

And today, as part of his unveiling, Peixoto has told fans what to expect from a Wolves team under his guidance.

Cesar Peixoto shares his philosophy as he becomes new Wolves manager

Peixoto has not been in football management for too long, but he has already had nine jobs.

That will perhaps be cause for concern for some, but Peixoto did just do a terrific job guiding Gil Vicente to sixth in the Primeira Liga table.

Have Wolves made the right decision appointing Cesar Peixoto? 🤔

Today, Wolves have shared all their media around Peixoto, including the man’s first quotes – and he has told fans what to expect when watching the team in 2026/27.

He said (via Wolves official): “Firstly, I’m a very demanding coach, but I believe in giving my players the maximum freedom and maximum responsibility. I know very well what I want for the team. I want a team that is organised with the ball and without the ball, I want a team with intensity, being aggressive, winning duels and I want to increase the quality of the players, the quality of the game, play an offensive game, try to press high and try to be the main character of the game.

“I think the squad has talent, it has a lot of quality, but I think the players have a lot to improve with the way I work and my idea of the game. The players have a lot of qualities and more quality than they showed in the last season.

“Fans will see a team with ambition, with strong character, a strong identity of the club, and a strong idea of the game. They will see a team who never gives up on trying to win the three points and I want to make the fans proud of these players.”

Peixoto signed off by stating that he wants to ‘build a great team to fight for promotion to the Premier League’.

Nathan Shi shares why he hired Peixoto

Nathan Shi has also given some comments about Peixoto today.

The executive chairman believes that this is an appointment that fans will really get behind. He said: “It became clear very quickly that he possesses many of the qualities we believe are important for the future of this football club.

“We wanted clear identity, strong leadership qualities and a real hunger to succeed. Cesar demonstrated all of those characteristics, but what impressed me most was his mentality, his work ethic and his willingness to embrace the challenge in front of him.

“He is young, energetic and ambitious, but he is also thoughtful, accountable and willing to challenge himself and those around him in pursuit of improvement.”

It all sounds great. But the proof will very obviously be in the pudding.

Wolves have taken a real risk here appointing someone with no Championship experience, and sacking someone who did and was popular with the players.
