Wolves have sacked Rob Edwards in a major development at Molineux.

After lots of positivity in recent days, Wolves have threatened to disrupt that by making a managerial change.

There were whispers yesterday from publications in Portugal that talks had been taking place to bring in Cesar Peixoto.

And late last night, Fabrizio Romano reported that there was an agreement in principle.

And now this morning, reports are widespread that Edwards has indeed been sacked, in what is a brutal situation for him.

And one journalist has shared how he actually learned of the news.

Rob Edwards sacked by Wolves

According to Pete O’Rourke on X this morning, Edwards actually learned of his sacking after family members saw rumours on social media.

He said: “Wolves have sacked Rob Edwards after agreeing deal to bring in Cesar Peixoto as his replacement. Edwards first heard of his sacking after members of his family saw rumours of Peixoto’s appointment on social media and Edwards called the club to ask about the rumours.”

In another post, O’Rourke said: “In a phone call to club officials it was confirmed to Edwards he had been sacked despite playing a role in the club’s first two signings of the summer in Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez and also the new contract for Andre.”

The situation is absolutely mind-blowing, because it comes totally out of the blue.

Edwards had spent days and weeks talking about the new season, and had played a key role in the signings of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez.

He was also a major factor for Andre to sign his new contract, and one wonders what the Brazilian must be thinking now.

Edwards did struggle in the Premier League, and fans had turned on him by the end.

But Wolves taking the positive steps they did in recent days appeared to get many back on side.

Edwards was brought in with the long term in mind, but he will now not get the chance to lead the promotion push.

It’s a major gamble by Wolves, and one that has been orchestrated by Jorge Mendes.
