Gomes came forward and struck from the edge of the box.

His initial effort was blocked. But he then followed up with a lovely controlled finish into the corner, sending the away end into ecstasy.

Gomes’ contribution could potentially prove to be massive for Wolves.

There is still a long way to go this season. Although Wolves have made big strides under Lopetegui, the other teams are all scrapping for their Premier League lives.

Gomes has come in for praise from many people since the game.

The likes of Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Julen Lopetegui all had kind words for the club’s newest recruit. Former Molineux players Dave Edwards and Andy Thompson also praised the youngster.

Traore has also praised on the South American, saying after the game (Wolves official): “He’s a young lad, he has to keep working.

“He’s a great player and it was a day for him, he made the day for him. I’m so happy for him and we keep going.”

Traore was introduced at half-time by Lopetegui against Southampton.

Before Gomes got the winner, the Spaniard had forced the equaliser from Jan Bednarek, who couldn’t sort his feet out.

Joao Gomes must keep his feet on the group and keep working hard, as Adama Traore says

Gomes looks a great player, and he couldn’t have asked for a better start to his Wolves career.

It’s important now that he doesn’t get carried away and keeps his feet on the ground.

He looks to be quite a mature individual, so that doesn’t feel particularly likely.

He just needs to keep working hard in training, and relish the opportunities when they come.

For Gomes, it’s about getting used to the Premier League in the coming months. Next season, the plan may well be for him to become a regular starter.
