Wolves are reportedly set to sign Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes.
Just over two weeks remain in the summer transfer window, and Record are now claiming that Wolves have now struck a deal to sign the 23-year-old.
So far, Wanderers have brought in just two players in Nathan Collins and Goncalo Guedes.
Fans expected more incomings at this stage, but it hasn’t really been the rebuild many anticipated so far.
Wolves have made a bit of an underwhelming start to the new season in terms of points picked up.
After losing to Leeds United in the first game, Wolves could then only draw with Fulham on Saturday.
There is no doubt about it; Wolves need to sign at least a couple more players before the window closes – and it looks as though the club may have finally made a breakthrough with Nunes.
Record said last night that a deal was closed between the two clubs for a fee of €45 million (£38 million) plus another €5 million (£4.2 million) in add-ons.
Wolves had reportedly already one offer to the player, but he turned it down.
But Record now say that Wolves have now gotten the green light from Nunes.
Nunes has started the season in very good form for Sporting. Last week he made a sublime assist, and at the weekend, he scored a rocket from 25 yards out.
He would make for some signing for Wolves. Football Transfers describe him as being ‘a complete midfielder’ and that ‘his ability to carry the ball from deep has drawn him many admirers’.
It remains to be seen if Wanderers will be able to afford a deal.
Matheus Nunes and a striker would be an impressive window from Wolves
This update from Record is very encouraging indeed.
Nunes really would be a fantastic addition to Bruno Lage’s squad.
He would bring attributes that few others in the squad have. Wolves have been crying out for a driving force in midfield for some time.
Nunes coming to Molineux, as well as another striker, would mean it’s been a brilliant window from Wolves.
And if the club was able to retain the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White and Adama Traore, then Lage would have some squad on his hands.
