Wolves transfer news: Wolves open to Goncalo Guedes offers

Wolves are reportedly open to offers for Goncalo Guedes, just six months after he joined the club from Valencia.

The winger has really struggled at Molineux so far this season.

Fans expected big things, from a player the club had chased for a long time and ultimately cost £27.5 million.

Guedes found himself a regular in the starting XI at the start of the season under Bruno Lage.

But after a string of underwhelming displays, he started to see more time on the bench.

He didn’t feature all that much under interim manager Steve Davis.

And minutes have again been hard to come by under Julen Lopetegui.

The new head coach made a bold decision at the weekend to overlook Guedes for his matchday squad against West Ham United. There was no injury, it was simply a tactical decision, Lopetegui confirmed after the 1-0 win.

This came days after Lopetegui took the player off at half-time against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.

That’s the second time that’s happened this season, with Davis hooking him against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Following his latest snub, there has been new speculation about Guedes’ future.

TalkSPORT are now reporting that Wolves are open to offers for the 26-year-old. It is not clear if the club would be willing to sanction a loan exit, or if they just want to sell.

Wolves are expected to complete the signing of Pablo Sarabia from Paris Saint-Germain this week.

The Spaniard’s arrival would further impact Guedes.

Wolves may have to take a hit on Goncalo Guedes after poor spell at Molineux, as club welcome offers for struggling forward

Guedes’ time at Wolves so far has been hugely disappointing.

He and Matheus Nunes were the marquee signings last summer. A return of just two goals might not be so bad if he was contributing in other ways, like making assists, creating chances of just constantly busting a gut for the team.

But Guedes, who is thought to earn around £90,000-a-week, just hasn’t really shown much, and it’s a big shame because he is obviously a talent.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with him in the next couple of weeks. It was claimed yesterday that he has asked Jorge Mendes to help him return to Valencia.

Wolves may well have to take a hit on the player if they are going to sell.

Lopetegui needs to determine whether Guedes truly wants to be at Wolves. If he does, the manager must then work out if he can actually be a good fit under him. So far, he’s handed him three starts.

Wolves have Cunha now. Sarabia is coming in. And there’s already a number of good wide forwards, with Pedro Neto to also come back into the picture soon.
