Wolves transfer news: Goncalo Guedes askes Jorge Mendes for Valencia return

Wolves winger Goncalo Guedes has reportedly asked Jorge Mendes to try and facilitate a return to Valencia for him.

The winger was not included in Wanderers’ matchday squad for yesterday’s Premier League game against West Ham United.

Julen Lopetegui overlooked the 26-year-old, after substituting him off at half-time in the Carabao Cup game against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Seemingly Guedes did not do what was asked of him against the Reds, and Lopetegui did not hesitate to haul him off.

It was shame, given how he had played well against Liverpool in the previous match.

Guedes was overlooked completely for yesterday’s game with West Ham.

Lopetegui instead named teen forward Chem Campbell on the bench. New signing Mario Lemina was also included.

After the game, the manager said that it was a tactical decision, and was coy about the player’s future.

Guedes has been loosely linked with an exit from Wolves this month.

But it could be that speculation now starts to pick up.

According to journalist Hector Gomez, Guedes was actually now asked the agent Jorge Mendes to try and bring him back to Valencia.

He does ‘highly doubt’ that the move will happen, though.

Wolves may take late decision on Goncalo Guedes this month, amid rumours of potential Valencia return

It is a little concerning to be reading claims like this about Guedes.

If he really has asked Mendes to try and get him back to Valencia, then it’s clear that his head is not where it needs to be.

Lopetegui can’t be having players that don’t want to be at the club.

If it isn’t true that Guedes wants to return to Valencia, then he needs to start proving his worth for Wolves, who shelled out nearly £30 million on him initially.

Perhaps he’ll get a few more chances to convince Lopetegui, before a decision is made on him.
