Wolves transfer news: Wanderers still pushing to land Viktor Gyokeres

Wolves are reportedly still trying to push for Viktor Gyokeres, but are facing strong competition for the player.

Wanderers are looking to get their squad in shape ahead of Julen Lopetegui’s first pre-season.

And one of the main focuses is seemingly to land a new striker.

We have been hearing that Fabio Silva is looking to leave the club.

Diego Costa is leaving as a free agent, and Raul Jimenez is also expected to depart.

That would leave just Sasa Kalajdzic and Matheus Cunha as options to play up top.

Yesterday, Fabrizio Romano also tweeted that Wolves were still looking to try and sign the 24-year-old.

Reports in Portugal recently have suggested that Gyokeres is actually closing in on an move to Sporting CP.

A few weeks ago, Wolves looked to be in pole position for Gyokeres.

As well as Wolves, there is also interest from West Ham United, Fulham and Brentford, who are also said to be locked in talks for Nathan Collins.

Last week, it was reported that Gyokeres was actually deciding between Everton and Sporting.

Wolves’ financial situation may cost them Viktor Gyokeres

Wolves do seem to really like Gyokeres.

The club has been linked with him since the start of the year, and seemingly Wanderers would be pushing hard for him if not under any kind of restrictions.

But Wolves have a delicate financial situation right now.

Player sales are needed to balance the books, and it’s been suggested a few times that Wolves will look to bring in younger players for less money (about the £8-15 million range).

Previously, it has been reported that Coventry want about £25 million for Gyokeres, described as ‘fast and strong’ by David Eklund, who scouted Gyokeres as a youngster (via inews).

They have a great a chance of securing such a fee given the level of interest in the player, so Wolves are surely up against it to sign him.
