Wolves target Viktor Gyokeres among nominees for PFA Championship Fans' Player of the Year

Viktor Gyokeres is among the nominees for the PFA Championship Fans’ Player of the Year, amid speculation he could make a move to Wolves this summer.

The Sweden international has enjoyed an absolutely brilliant season in 2022/23 with Coventry City.

Gyokeres plundered 21 goals in the Championship.

Only Middlesbrough’s Chuba Akpom scored more than him, but with an additional 10 assists, no player in the English second tier got more goal contributions thank Gyokeres.

His contributions helped Coventry make the play-offs, and City are facing Boro in the second leg of the semi-final tomorrow night. The first leg finished 0-0.

It has been reported that Gyokeres is a player of great interest to Wolves. Just last week, it was suggested Wanderers are leading the chase.

The club considered moving for him in January, after they had signed Matheus Cunha.

But in the end, Julen Lopetegui decided to press on with Raul Jimenez, Diego Costa and new boy Cunha.

Jimenez and Costa are both expected to leave in the summer.

There has also been talking about Fabio Silva extending his loan spell with PSV, or heading elsewhere for another loan.

So Lopetegui would potentially only have Cunha and Sasa Kalajdzic as options to play up top.

Viktor Gyokeres would be a great signing for Wolves this summer, as striker is nominated for end-of-season award

It is little wonder Gyokeres is among the nominees for PFA Championship Fans’ Player of the Year.

He’ll have a good chance of winning, with fans knowing he’s got the most goal contributions in the Championship this season.

Wolves could do much worse than to bring Gyokeres in this summer.

Those 10 assists suggest he is not just a goalscorer. Evidently, he gets involved in the build-up and has a creative side.

Jimenez used to be like that before his head injury, and it would be great to see Wanderers have a number nine like that again.
