Ruud van Nistelrooy keen to extend Wolves striker Fabio Silva's loan beyond the current season

PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is keen to extend the loan of Wolves striker Fabio Silva beyond the current campaign.

The Portuguese attacker has started really well with the Dutch club since cutting short his spell with Anderlecht in January.

He has four goals for the club in 10 appearances, and is playing his part in a title push for PSV.

Currently, the club sit fourth on 52 points. They have work to do to catch leaders Feyenoord though, who have amassed 58.

Silva hit his fourth for PSV yesterday in the 5-2 win over Cambuur.

He started the game, and struck in the second-half via the penalty spot. And it was a very emphatic spot-kick.

Wolves officials will be delighted with how the 2022/23 season has gone for Silva.

In total across his spells in Belgium and the Netherlands so far, he has made 42 appearances. The main aim for Silva this season was to play regular minutes and he has been able to do that.

And he’s been among the goals, and he’s already impressed van Nistelrooy, who has now admitted he would like to keep hold of Silva beyond the current season.

He told ESPN (as relayed by Voetbal Primeur): “It was already the intention, I wanted to capture Silva from the beginning. Hopefully it works out, but it’s still a question.”

At the moment, there has been no indication that Wolves would be willing to extend Silva’s loan into next season.

Julen Lopetegui may have something to say, as Ruud van Nistelrooy seeks to extend Fabio Silva’s loan

Silva has clearly made a strong impression early doors at PSV.

van Nistelrooy wants to get that loan extended, but he might not get his wish.

If Silva continues on in this fashion, it is hard to see Julen Lopetegui agreeing to him staying in the Netherlands into next season.

Sporting director Matt Hobbs recently revealed that Lopetegui is watching Silva from afar and already has his eye on bringing him back for pre-season.

Wolves’ goalscoring issues are well documented, and Silva has scored enough this season to suggest he could be ready to make an impact for the first-team next season.
