Wolves reportedly have no interest in signing Tariq Lamptey from Brighton this month.
It was reported recently that Wanderers were keen to land the youngster on loan.
Both Nelson Semedo and Jonny Castro Otto have struggled this season, and so there have been a few links to right-backs in recent weeks.
As well Lamptey, there have also been reports about Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Manchester United and Real Valladolid starlet Ivan Fresneda.
But so far there has been no movement from Wolves.
It has been a very good transfer window so far. But Julen Lopetegui is seemingly ready to put his faith in Semedo and Jonny.
TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook has had his say on the loan links to Lamptey. He believes Wolves are not interested in the Ghana international.
He told Give Me Sport: “I’m terms of a right-back for Wolves, I’m told there’s nothing in the links to Tariq Lamptey.
“I think long-term they’d want to replace Nelson Semedo, who’d probably move on, but I don’t think that’s a priority for this window.”
Last month, it was reported Wolves would consider offloading Semedo if the terms were right.
But seemingly, appropriate offers haven’t been forthcoming.
With the transfer deadline on Tuesday, it would be a surprise to see Wolves making a change now.
Tariq Lamptey to Wolves on loan was never particularly likely
Lamptey has found minutes a bit harder to come by this season.
But a loan move to Wolves was always going to be unlikely.
He is a brilliant young player, and only last season and 2020/21, he was being talked about as one of the most exciting young stars in the Premier League.
He dazzled supporters with his exciting style, with his pace a particularly impressive part of his game. The Athletic described him as rapid in 2021 when he had recorded a higher top speed than Kylian Mbappe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Lamptey seems to have struggled with injuries/fitness a fair bit in recent times, which is perhaps why he hasn’t really been able to kick on.
Maybe Wolves should look at the situation again in the summer.
