Wolves transfer news: Wanderers hold an interest in Matt Targett

Wolves reportedly ‘hold an interest’ in left-back Matt Targett.

90min have claimed the club are one of several outfits keen on the 26-year-old, who was really impressed on loan at Newcastle United.

Targett moved to St. James’ Park in January, and is there until the end of 2021/22.

The Magpies swoop for him, after Aston Villa landed Lucas Digne from Everton.

Since transferring, Targett has made 12 appearances in black and white, and has endeared himself to supporters already with his consistent performances.

Newcastle supposedly have an agreement in place with Villa for the permanent transfer of the player, which would be around £15 million.

90min say that Wolves hold an interest in the player, as well as Leeds United and Leicester City.

But they add that his preference would be to remain at St. James’ Park.

At Molineux, Wolves look set to bid farewell to Fernando Marcal at the end of the season.

The Brazilian is out of contract, and there have been reports that Botafogo are poised to swoop for him on a free transfer.

Wolves do have Rayan Ait-Nouri and Jonny Castro Otto capable of playing left wing-back.

There is also Ryan Giles, who is currently out on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

It was been reported previously that Lage is a big fan of his and will look at him in pre-season.

And then there is also Hugo Bueno, who has been impressing with James Collins’ U23 side.

Wolves surely don’t really need Matt Targett

Targett has undoubtedly been really good for Newcastle since he joined them on loan.

He is a solid player who delivers consistent performances.

But it’s difficult to see how Wolves would have any real need for him this summer.

Jonny and Ait-Nouri are great options and Giles and Bueno could also provide some cover for the position if needs be.

It seems like any move from Wolves would be unlikely anyway, given there is supposedly an agreement in place for his permanent transfer.
