Wolves look to have been dealt a major blow in their reported pursuit of Joao Palhinha.
The club are said to be interested in signing the 26-year-old this summer.
But a report from Record may indicate that a transfer will be very difficult to pull off.
According to them, the Portuguese league champions are reluctant to let Palhinha go this summer.
They will therefore refer potential suitors to the player’s release clause, which is said to be around £51 million.
Palhinha was instrumental for Sporting last term as they won the league title.
It is little wonder they do not want to let him go.
Sporting, of course, will be playing Champions League football in 2021/22 and understandably want to retain their best players.
Palhinha transfer may be dependent on Neves sale
Some have been hoping Palhinha will be signed to play alongside Ruben Neves.
If Sporting are demanding £51 million, then Neves will surely need selling for the club to be able to afford Palhinha.
Perhaps they watched Palhinha impress at Euro 2020 and believe somebody may be willing to pay such an amount.
It’s hard to see Wolves forking out that much, even if Neves was sold for big money.
Hopefully Record’s information turns out to be wide of the mark, as Palhinha would be a fantastic addition for Wolves.
