Wolves may have trump card to play in reported pursuit of Joao Palhinha

Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be keen to sign Joao Palhinha this summer.

It’s been reported the club like the Sporting CP midfielder, with A Bola reporting yesterday that he is top of the list of targets.

Palhinha enjoyed a wonderful season in 2020/21, playing a key role in Sporting’s surge to the league title.

Potentially, a few teams will be in for him this summer.

The level he’s shown certainly warrants plenty of interest from other teams, and Wolves will hope to win the battle for his signature.

Perhaps the club have a trump card to play though, if there is going to be other teams coming to the table.

It’s been reported that Sporting want to sign Ruben Vinagre, and that the full-back is manager Ruben Amorim’s ‘obsession’.

If that is indeed the case, then Wolves should surely be looking to facilitate some kind of player-plus-cash deal.

Vinagre plus cash for Palhinha

It’s been reported previously (CM) that Palhinha is worth around £26 million.

In today’s pandemic-affected market, that’s quite a lot of money.

If Sporting want to land Vinagre, then Wolves should consider using him to get Palhinha.

Vinagre supposedly has a valuation of about £13 million, so offering him as part of the deal would potentially help Wolves get Palhinha much cheaper.
