Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ruben Vinagre is apparently the ‘obsession’ of Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim.
A Bola report today that the 22-year-old is a target for the Portuguese champions, and that Amorim is a big fan.
Vinagre is one of a number of players expected to depart Molineux this summer. This, in a bid by Fosun to raise funds.
The star spent last season out on loan, first at Greek giants Olympiacos.
That move didn’t work out, and Wolves then facilitated a new move for him to join Farmalicao.
That was a much more productive spell, with Vinagre making 20 appearances for the club.
His showings there have seemingly drawn attention, with Benfica having also been mentioned as potential suitors in recent weeks.
But A Bola’s latest information may suggest that Sporting is the more likely destination.
Amorim’s ‘obssession’ with Vinagre comes amid continued speculation of the future of their left-back Nuno Mendes. Manchester City are said to want him.
Vinagre to depart?
To learn that a manager who has just emphatically delivered a league title has an obsession to sign you must be quite a nice feeling for Vinagre.
It would be no surprise from here to see him make this move.
It is suggested in A Bola’s report that Vinagre has been happy with life back in Portugal.
There’s probably a good chance that the money received would then be pumped into a deal to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri on a permanent transfer.
It was reported in April that Wolves had placed a £13 million valuation on the player.
