Wolves transfer news: Raphael Guerreiro now a free agent after Molineux link

Raphael Guerreiro will officially become free agent after Borussia Dortmund confirmed his departure, in a development that could now put Wolves on alert.

The Portugal international will be playing for a different team from next season, after his seven-year spell with Dortmund came to an end.

Writing on Instagram recently, Guerreiro said (via bvb.de): “The memories I have made here have taught me a lot about myself on the pitch, but also helped me to understand what I really love about football. I will never forget the feeling of playing for this club and defending the colours of BVB!”

It was something of a sad end for Guerreiro, who joined Dortmund for just under £10 million.

Last weekend, the club were poised to win the Bundesliga title.

But they could only draw with Mainz on the final day, with Bayern Munich beating Koln to snatch it away from them.

But Guerreiro had a fantastic campaign on a personal note for Dortmund.

Playing as a left-back and in midfield, he made 36 appearances across all competitions, and tabled 14 assists and scored six goals.

His 12 assists in the Bundesliga was the most of anyone in the league (via Squawka).

He’s now looking for a new club, and it was reported recently that Wolves were keen on him, along with  Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Leeds United.

One wonders if the club will now launch a pursuit, of a player who clearly has a lot to offer.

Wolves should be going for Raphael Guerreiro amid concerns over FFP

It would be great to see Wolves actually try and sign Guerreiro this summer.

As we know, the club is now facing some financial difficulties.

Wolves need to turn a profit this summer so that they do not fall foul of FFP, and player sales are required.

It is not expected that Wolves will be spending big.

And so that could see the club turn to the free agent market – and Guerreiro would be a great addition.

He’s a very experienced player and has the versatility to be play as a left-back or in midfield.

He’s clearly very creative as evidenced by his assist numbers.

Certainly if Rayan Ait-Nouri leaves the club this summer, then Guerreiro would be a great signing to make. That would mean Wolves would have him and Hugo Bueno as options to play wide, with Toti Gomes also able to provide cover and play be an option to play centrally.
