Wolves transfer news: Nacho Fernandez's priority is Real Madrid

Wolves’ hopes of signing Nacho Fernandez in January appeared to be fading, with new claims suggesting the player wants to stay at Real Madrid.

The central defender hasn’t featured much at all this season for the Spanish giants.

The arrival of Toni Rudiger in the summer has really had an impact on his involvement.

As a result of Nacho’s lack of minutes and the fact his contract is expiring next summer, there has been a lot of speculation about his future.

AS say that there are clubs in the MLS keen to sign him. And AC Milan, AS Roma and Wolves are all keen, too.

But AS also say that the player wants to sign a new contract at the Bernabeu until 2024.

Supposedly, negotiations are underway and the parties are hopefully of coming to an agreement. There is no rush, but the situation is active.

It was reported before the World Cup that Julen Lopetegui was keen to sign Nacho.

He has previously worked with him at Real and with the Spanish national team.

Nacho is held in very high regard by Real Madrid fans for the unwavering loyalty he has shown down the years. He is someone that has never really been a regular, but always does well when he comes into the starting XI.

He could easily have gone to be a starter at many clubs across Europe in years gone by.

Big blow for Wolves over Nacho Fernandez, he’d be absolutely ideal for Lopetegui

This is not a good update for Wolves.

Nacho is a quality player even now at 32 years old, and would make a brilliant addition for so many clubs.

It seems his infatuation with Real Madrid is as strong as ever.

Maybe Wolves need to see once and for all if he really doesn’t fancy a crack at the Premier League.

Perhaps Molineux officials should consider tabling an offer just to see if there is a chance.

Wolves absolutely need to bring in a centre-half that has a lot of experience under his belt. Nacho certainly has that, and he has also won a lot of silverware throughout his career.
