Wolves transfer news: Matheus Cunha's father says attacker is focused on a transfer

The father of Matheus Cunha has said the Atletico Madrid star has his sights set on a transfer, amid reports of a potential move to Wolves.

Cunha is reported to be the subject of interest from Wolves, who have their sights set on boosting their attacking options in January.

The two clubs have been in talks over the past few days.

Wanderers want to bring Cunha to Molineux, and also his teammate Felipe.

It’s been claimed that Wolves could actually have both ‘signed’ this week, although any move would obviously not be officially completed until January.

Yesterday, reports stated that Cunha had missed training amid reports he might be leaving. Supposedly, that was to avoid the risk of any freak injuries happening.

And now, Cunha’s father Carmelo has added to the speculation that a move is in the offing.

He is quoted by Globo Esporte – which has tended to be quite a reputable Brazilian publication – as saying: “Matheus Cunha is focused on a possible transfer.”

The report shares how Cunha has kept a low profile since not making Tite’s final Brazil squad for the World Cup. He has apparently recently been on vacation in Orlando, Florida to take his mind off things.

Potential boost for Wolves as Matheus Cunha’s father appears to suggest star is keen for Atletico exit

Carmelo Cunha doesn’t talk about Wolves specifically. But this is surely good news for Julen Lopetegui.

Reports in recent days have indicated that Wolves are currently in pole position to land the 23-year-old.

But other clubs like Aston Villa and Everton have been credited with an interest in the player.

It’s just up to Wolves now to get this deal over the line.

It looks like the player is very keen to get out of the Wanda Metropolitano and start a new chapter.
