Wolves reportedly showed interest in Mislav Orsic of Dinamo Zagreb, but the player is having a medical with Southampton.
According to The Telegraph’s Sam Wallace, Wanderers were one of a few clubs to have taken a look at the 30-year-old striker.
But the star is seemingly all set to complete a move to St. Mary’s.
A medical is ongoing at the moment, and it is expected Southampton will soon unveil the Croatia international.
As well as Wolves, there was also interest from Nottingham Forest and Everton according to Wallace.
The Athletic have reported that Southampton are paying around £6 million to Zagreb for the player, with new manager Nathan Jones looking to add more goals to his squad.
Orsic scored 91 goals in 214 appearances across all competitions for them. He also laid on 40 assists, indicating he’s a striker with a creative side.
Wolves have just brought in Matheus Cunha. But the Brazilian is not and out-and-out centre-forward.
Julen Lopetegui may potentially seek to bring in another centre-forward this month.
But it feels as though that would be dependent on Raul Jimenez leaving, since Cunha can play centrally and there’s also Diego Costa.
Certainly at the moment, there are other positions that need strengthening before another forward comes in.
A central defender with experience should be top of the list.
And another central midfielder should also be on the agenda. Especially now Boubacar Traore has suffered an injury that could sideline him for up to two months.
Mislav Orsic will be interesting to watch at Southampton following Wolves claim
Orsic looks all set to become a Southampton player, then.
It is interesting that Wolves showed an interest in the star, because he is really not someone they currently need on the face of it.
He’s yet another winger who can play through the middle.
This season, he has mainly operated from the left.
The only way in which it would have made sense for Wolves is if Hwang Hee-chan or Adama Traore had both left.
It will be intriguing to see how Orsic gets on for Southampton, the only club to have been worse than Wolves after 18 games.
