Reported Wolves target Goncalo Ramos has seemingly suggested he doesn’t intend to make a move to the Premier League this summer.
The 21-year-old has made a brilliant start to the 2022/23 season.
Ramos has already hit four goals in four games, and also provided three assists.
The star’s latest goal was the winner in the 1-0 win against Casa Pia yesterday.
Ramos has been in red hot form this calendar year.
He made a sluggish start to last season, but really found form at the start of 2022 and he has 11 so far for the year.
A number of clubs are thought to be keen on Ramos, with Newcastle United having been linked in recent days.
But Wolves have also been mentioned as potential suitors.
Earlier this month there were claims that Wolves enquired about taking Ramos on loan for the season.
It is thought that Benfica would prefer to sell the player if they were to do a deal this summer. Fabrizio Romano reported recently that Ramos would set club’s back at least £25 million.
Ramos has actually spoken about his potential to leave Benfica in this window. And it doesn’t sound like he’s ready to push for an exit.
He said (as quoted by 90min): “I’m at Benfica, I’m fine, we’re playing well. What matters to me is Benfica.”
Ramos looks to be off the table for Wolves after star’s comments
Ramos doesn’t seem particularly keen to leave Benfica right now.
And that’s not a great surprise. The Portuguese giants have started the new season well, winning their first two matches in the league.
Benfica have also beaten FC Midtjylland over two legs in Champions League qualifying, and they face Dinamo Kiev next to get into the competition.
Benfica also enjoyed a perfect pre-season in terms of results.
The squad is in good shape and it’s likely they will be up there challenging Sporting CP and FC Porto for the league title.
Ramos has been playing regularly and scoring goals. For any team to prise him away in the next few weeks, it will potentially take a big offer.
