Wolves transfer news: Gassama will stay at PSG as report makes Chiquinho claim

Reported Wolves target Djeidi Gassama will stay at Paris Saint-Germain following speculation of a potential move to Molineux.

Foot Mercato had claimed this morning that Wolves had made a loan-to-buy bid for the youngster.

Supposedly three teams in total made offers for the teenage forward.

But according to Sky Sports’ live blog (31/01, 2.48pm), Gassama will not be leaving the French capital today.

He apparently had interest from Southampton too.

It is claimed that Wolves actually had interest in the player earlier in the January window.

But the club switched its attention to Chiquinho, whom they officially signed on January 17 for an initial £3 million.

Chiquinho is to work with Bruno Lage’s first-team squad, and is the only one of Wolves’ three additions this month not to be loaned out.

Gassama, who has scored five goals in his last six games for PSG’s U19s, has just 18 months left on his contract.

Whether Wolves make a fresh attempt to sign him in the summer, when his value will be lower, remains to be seen.

Gassama could be worth revisiting in the summer for Wolves

So it seems Gassama is another player who won’t be making a move to Wolves on transfer deadline day.

It appears Wolves felt Chiquinho was the better bet. And hopefully, the Portuguese youngster will soon prove why the club plumped for him.

But Gassama is a talent, and the fact his contract expires in the summer of 2023 might prompt Wolves to just keep an eye on him.
