Wolves transfer news: Barcelona interested in Matheus Nunes

Barcelona have reportedly now entered the race to sign Matheus Nunes from Wolves.

SPORT have reported today that the Spanish giants are interested in making a move for the 24-year-old, who has come into form recently at Molineux.

Nunes has put in two brilliant performances in Wolves’ last two games.

He scored a goal of the season contender against Chelsea.

And then against Brentford he made a world-class assist for Hwang Hee-chan to score. Lee Naylor described him as absolutely outstanding lately.

We are finally seeing why Wolves forked out so much money to sign him from Sporting CP and why he was, and still is, really coveted.

SPORT have said today that Nunes is now a target for Barcelona, and there is, unsurprisingly, mention of Jorge Mendes.

He is Nunes’ agent, and has a close relationship with Barca president Joan Laporta.

Barca are on course to win the league title this season under Xavi, and have looked much better after a difficult campaign in 2021/22.

They are looking to strengthen their squad this summer to kick on.

Barca have also long been linked with a move for Wolves captain Ruben Neves.

In recent times though, it has been suggested that Xavi is not completely sold on Neves’ profile in terms of him being a good fit for his side. He is said to prefer Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.

Previously, it has been reported that Nunes also has interest in him from Liverpool and Chelsea.

Liverpool’s interest is mentioned by SPORT.

Wolves must keep Matheus Nunes this summer, as Barcelona enter the race

So Barca are now seemingly after Nunes as well as Neves.

There is surely no way they will be able to sign both given all the talk about their financial issues.

Surely, if one of the two has to be sold this summer it should be Neves, since he’ll only have one year left on his contract.

Nunes has shown recently what an amazing player he is.

He has thrived for Wolves in Neves’ absence, and the goal for Wolves should be to build the team around him, not sell him.
