Wolves fans should be welcoming transfer links to Edin Dzeko

Wolves have been linked with a shock transfer for Edin Dzeko.

Reports in Italy are suggesting Wolves are one of several clubs taking an interest in the centre-forward.

Earlier this year, The Telegraph reported the club would be focusing on signing a new striker this summer.

Johnny Phillips also suggested Wolves would be looking to create a new spine within the team.

So far, Wolves have been very quiet in the summer transfer window.

But fans are hoping things will now pick up after the signing of Nathan Collins on Tuesday.

Given the team’s struggles in front of goal in 2021/22 (and also the season before), it is paramount for Wolves to bring in a new marksman.

And transfer links to Dzeko should be welcomed.

Some on social media are already dismissing him because he is 36 years old.

But Dzeko is the type of centre-forward that doesn’t, and has never, relied on being pacey and mobile two traits that really decline with age in a footballer.

He is a target man, who is excellent at holding the ball up and bringing others around him into play. And he is someone that occupies the penalty area, waiting to stick chances away both on the ground and in the air.

Last season, Dzeko scored 17 goals in 48 games for Inter. He also laid on 10 assists, suggesting him as still being a great all-round centre-forward.

Dzeko has scored and assisted with regularity throughout his entire career.

In 681 games at club level, he has scored 308 goals and made 141 assists. He’s also got 63 in 124 for Bosnia.

At the end of the day, Wolves are crying out for an attacking player that is proven. Dzeko is still doing it in his mid-thirties and absolutely should be considered if the price is right.

He doesn’t really fit the current transfer policy, but Dzeko could make for a really shrewd signing for Wolves.

Aside from his ability to score and create, Dzeko is also very experienced and a leader. He wore the captain’s armband on occasion for AS Roma, and skippers the national team.

Obviously, Wanderers have already lost three such individuals this summer in the form of John Ruddy, Romain Saiss and Fernando Marcal.

Futhermore, Dzeko has won a lot in his career. He is a former Bundesliga champion, and a two-time Premier League winner. And he’s won a host of domestic cups to boot. So that winning mentality could be great for the Wolves dressing room.
