Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a late swoop for the Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car.

Just five days remain now in the transfer window, and Wolves still need to sign a new central defender.

It is a priority position for the club.

Yerson Mosquera was signed at the start of the summer, but Wolves have not brought in an experienced centre-half since Willy Boly in 2018, following an initial loan period.

Marseille are currently having a bit of financial difficulty as a result of the pandemic.

They are said to need to sell some players.

Apparently, they would be willing to offload Caleta-Car for around £17 million (Sky Sports).

But Wolves face an uphill battle convincing the player to join.

The 24-year-old is said to want to keep playing European football if he is to leave the club.

Obviously, Wolves cannot offer European football, so it remains to be seen if he can be convinced to move.

Caleta-Car is a player with big potential, and has already been linked to some English clubs.

Liverpool supposedly made an offer for him back in January of this year.
