The awkward Romain Saiss comment as defender is now linked with Barcelona

Barcelona have been linked with a surprise swoop for Romain Saiss.

The Morocco international is apparently an option for the Catalan giants, who are looking to bolster their defensive pool of options.

Saiss is all set to leave Molineux, having recently said that his future is more of less decided, and that it’s more likely he’ll depart than stay.

Saiss has been with Wolves since 2016, signing from Angers shortly after Fosun bough the the club.

He has clocked up 206 appearances for the club so far, but it seems he will not be adding any more to that tally.

Mundo Deportivo say that Saiss is an option for Barcelona, whose president Joan Laporta has just been speaking about ‘the FFP factor’ (via Birmingham Mail).

Clearly there will be a need for Barcelona to make some free and loan signings this summer. As was the case for them in January.

Saiss moving to the Nou Camp would be quite the story.

And the claim is also quite interesting when one remembers a joke Saiss made about the club back in December.

He and Nelson Semedo were playing a game of ‘Guess Who?’ for a YouTube video the club’s official channel.

The pair got into a heated discussion, with Saiss accusing his teammate of cheating during the game.

The player Saiss had to guess was Trincao.

One of the questions Saiss asked was if Semedo had played with the player in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons at Wolves.

Semedo said that he had, which was obviously a lie. The wing-back then attempted to argue that he thought Saiss meant in the last two seasons at any club. Semedo claimed that he had played two or three games with Trincao at Barca. Which he didn’t

They went back and forth, and a frustrated Saiss eventually made a rather cheeky comment, yelling ‘My friend, why are you talking about Barcelona? Barcelona is finished! Messi is gone, everyone is gone from this club’.

Hopefully those at Barca will be able to overlook the cheeky remark if they do indeed want to sign him.
