There will be wholesale changes at Wolves this summer – and Rob Edwards yesterday commented on his goalkeepers Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone.

With Wolves being officially relegated, there will inevitably be an exodus this summer.

Should any of these NOT be on this list? And are there any who aren’t there who SHOULD be on? 🤔

The Athletic have claimed Wolves would like these nine players to stay after relegation…

There are several players the Old Gold would like to keep. But whether they can is another question, because there are already a lot of eyes on this squad.

It will be particularly interesting to see what changes are made to the goalkeeping department this summer.

Yesterday, Edwards was actually asked about Sam Johnstone’s future – and the Wolves manager shared his intentions for both him and Sa.

Rob Edwards to sit down for discussions with Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone

Sa has been the number one for most of 2026 at Wolves, having reclaimed his starting spot after a purple patch for Johnstone earlier in the season.

Johnstone picked up an injury recently and is likely out for the rest of the season now, potentially meaning he may already have played his final game.

Yesterday at his press conference, Edwards was asked about the futures of Johnstone and Sa, being two keepers who may want to continue playing in the top-flight.

He said: “It will be interesting.

“Obviously Sam will get fit over the next few weeks and we’ll see and assess his situation.

“I’ll have a good sit down with him – I haven’t done that yet – to see where his head’s at with stuff.

“And probably the same with Sa. I think he’s done great since he’s come into the team and done very, very well. I haven’t done it yet, but I need to sit down with those two and see where they see things. And then sort of put my point across as well, the way the club sees stuff.

“There’s a bit to have a look at and a few decisions to be made in that department, certainly, in the summer.”

Wolves should move both keepers on

It was claimed recently that Sa is almost certain to move on this summer, and that would be right for all parties. Especially after it was reported Sa actually tried to leave Wolves for Nottingham Forest in January.

Johnstone had a decent run of form earlier this season, but on the whole he has been an underwhelming signing for Wolves.

If he wanted to move on, then Wolves ought to look to try and make it happen.

Ideally, the club will bring in a younger option this summer, with Sa and Johnstone both aged 33.

Having a younger option with Dan Bentley as the number two to provide a push and also guidance seems a more sensible situation.
