Wolves had wanted to sell Goncalo Guedes this summer, but the player’s recent injury problems forced a rethink.
The 26-year-old joined Wolves last summer from Valencia for a reported £27.5 million.
There was a lot of hype about his signing, as the club had apparently chased him for some time.
But Guedes proved to be a very disappointing addition.
His performances were not up to scratch, and Julen Lopetegui then sanctioned a loan exit for him in January after giving him a handful of opportunities.
The thinking for Wolves was for Guedes to go to Benfica and raise his market value again, ahead of this summer.
But Guedes endured an injury-hit stint.
Wolves wanted Goncalo Guedes sale this summer, but he’s now set for second loan due to his injury problems
According to O Jogo, Wolves did want to sell Guedes this summer.
The club were happy to take a bit of a hit on him, but they had indeed wanted to offload the player permanently.

But Guedes’ recent injury problems scuppered those plans.
In March, Guedes had a small surgery on his left knee which put him on the sidelines for around a month.
Guedes returned to action and played a few more games for Benfica, before the club announced that he would be undergoing a second surgery.
This second surgery means that Guedes will now be recovering throughout the summer. It is apparently likely that he will miss the start of the new season.
Wolves have now apparently decided to sanction another loan move to Benfica for Guedes.
O Jogo say that a deal is currently being finalised, and that Benfica will pay part of Guedes’ salary, not all of it.
Goncalo Guedes situation far from ideal for Wolves as star’s injury problems scupper permanent deal plans
With Wolves needing cash, this situation with Guedes is far from ideal.
It sounds as though Wolves were prepared to take a financial hit on the player, just so they would at least get a bit of money in for him.
But Guedes will now be on the sidelines for the next couple of months. Other clubs are not going to want to pay a transfer fee for him while he is injured.

And it’s understandable Benfica have spoken to Wolves about another loan.
What’s happened with Guedes must be a source of real frustration for Wolves officials. He is a really talented player, but it seems Jorge Mendes pushed a player to Molineux that didn’t particularly want to be there.
Wolves want to offload him, but are now stuck paying part of his wages while he tries to rediscover his form out on loan.
