Julen Lopetegui has lavished praise on his captain Ruben Neves, after a superb performance for Wolves against Liverpool.
Neves put in a fantastic all-action display for Wanderers, and scored the final goal in a 3-0 win at Molineux. His display led to an inclusion in Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week.
It was a huge result for Wolves.
They were full value for the 3-0 victory, despite some bizarre comments from Jurgen Klopp after the game.
The nature of the win has the potential to really serve as a catalyst now for Wolves.
The next two games are against Southampton and Bournemouth. If Wolves can beat these two sides that are below them in the Premier League table, then the ball will be well and truly rolling.
And one man who will be leading the charge for points from the front is Neves.
The 25-year-old has been excellent all season, and after the game with Liverpool, Lopetegui hailed the Portuguese maestro.
He said (Express & Star): “Ruben is brilliant, he’s a top player.
“He deserves everything and has been doing really well from the start of the season when maybe we haven’t been doing so well.
“He’s always kept his levels up and been really consistent.
“He’s a great leader to look at and work with.”
Ruben Neves has been exceptional for Wolves during a turbulent campaign, as Lopetegui hails his skipper
Shortly after Lopetegui arrived at Wolves, he spoken about Neves being his ‘main actor’.
And he has certainly stepped up and been that, as if there would be any other outcome.
Neves has taken that captain’s armband and completely thrived.
It has been a tough campaign for the team. But he’s the one player who has never let his standards drop.
If Wolves do survive this season, Neves will have been an absolutely massive reason for that.
