Outgoing Wolves defender Romain Saiss is reportedly set to join Besiktas and sign a three-year contract.
The defender announced recently that he would be leaving Molineux after six years at the club.
The star reportedly had an offer on the table from Wolves. But in the end, there was no agreement between the two parties.
The Athletic reported recently that the player’s wage demands were the reason an agreement was not reached.
It seems Saiss is moving on pretty quickly, with Turkish giants Besiktas now poised the sign the Morocco international as a free agent.
France Football journalist Nabil Djellit – who has a 400,000-strong Twitter following – has stated that Saiss and Besiktas are close to agreeing a move.
He also suggests that Saiss has had many proposals.
Saiss’ stock has been relatively high at the end of the season given the campaign he has just had for Wolves.
The star was absolutely superb in the first half of the campaign.
But he went to AFCON in January, and then struggled to come back at the same level after returning.
Come the end of the season he was in pretty poor form, but that can be said for most of his teammates too.
Besiktas a good move for Romain Saiss
Besiktas is a very good next move for Saiss, and it’s good for him if he can indeed secure a three-year contract at the age of 32.
It’s a huge club, which is looking to get back on track after a disappointing defence of their league title in 2021/22. They finished sixth, 22 points behind champions Trabzonspor.
He’ll be playing in front of 42,000 people at Vodafone Park, and it’s likely he’ll be a regular, with Domagoj Vida leaving the club as a free agent.
Hopefully he will thrive there, and Wolves will not be too stung by his exit.
While he’ll be a massive miss in the dressing room, Wanderers an obviously upgrade.
