Midfielder Joao Palhinha has a new valuation of £25 million, with Sporting CP open to selling the midfielder.
The 26-year-old is a long-time target of Wolves’, and has been loosely linked with the club in recent months.
Palhinha enjoyed a pretty solid Euro 2020, catching the eye for Portugal.
Sporting anticipated a number of transfer bids would come in for the player following that.
In the summer, the Portuguese champions valued him at £33 million.
The Mirror have reported the club have now slashed their asking price, but Manchester United might be tempted to move for him.
The Red Devils are lacking quality in that area of the pitch. And they have recently been linked with a move for Ruben Neves.
Palhinha has made 25 appearances across all competitions so far this season.
Barring a few occasions where injury has prevented him from playing, he has pretty much been a mainstay for Sporting in their starting XI.
It’s been another strong season for them. Currently they are second in the league table, five points behind unbeaten Porto.
And they are into the last 16 of the Champions League, and face Manchester City next.
Could Wolves finally make a move to sign Joao Palhinha?
If it’s true Sporting would take £25 million for Palhinha, then that’s a bargain waiting to be had.
But it doesn’t feel like Wolves are about to make a play for him.
One gets the feeling that Wolves aren’t going to be landing a big name before Monday’s deadline. It was reported recently that Wolves would look to bring in players on loan if the right ones became available.
It is difficult to see Sporting agreeing to that.
Perhaps if Ruben Neves was to leave in the coming days, it could be a possibility.
But the maestro is in amazing form right now, and Wolves surely won’t be entertaining any offers that may be forthcoming. And it’s probably not likely Neves is about to push for a move mid-season.
