Joao Gomes tweets amid reports Lyon have outbid Wolves

Wolves’ hopes of signing Joao Gomes have taken a hit today, with Lyon reportedly making a bid for the player.

A move was in the offing and the player had been ready to fly to England.

But things have become complicated, because Lyon have apparently made a better offer to Flamengo.

They have apparently made a bid of £16 million.

Wolves’ offer had been in the region of £15 million, and Vene Casagrande – the journalist that first reported on this story – has said today that they had wanted to pay that in five installments.

Casagrande has also tweeted this evening that an official from Lyon is in Rio de Janeiro to try and bring a move to fruition.

Wolves fans will hope there will not be another case of their club missing out on a brilliant young talent from South America, after Enzo Fernandez joined Benfica last summer.

Gomes has actually now broken his silence amid the rumours about Lyon.

And it seems he doesn’t really know what’s going on with the situation. He tweeted the ‘thinking emoji’, without any words.

Meanwhile, Wolves are set to confirm the signing of Pablo Sarabia from Paris Saint-Germain.

Uncertainty over Joao Gomes deal, Wolves need to get it done

Who knows what Gomes is currently thinking, with Lyon unexpectedly now joining the race.

It had seemed like Wolves were nailed on to get him signed up with no issues.

But it would appear there is real work to do, with Lyon making a better offer than Wolves.

Wanderers have seen how good Fernandez has become, after deciding not to sign him last year.

It might be that which encourages Wolves to match or better Lyon’s offer for Gomes.
